TOKYO, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Jamaican sprinter Elaine Thompson-Herah defended her women's 100m title while Poland clinched gold in the first-ever mixed 4x400m relay at the Tokyo Olympics here on Saturday.
Thompson-Herah clocked in 10.61 seconds to break the 33-year-old Olympic record, winning her second Olympic 100m gold medal after her previous victory in Rio 2016.
The 29-year-old was followed by 2008 and 2012 gold medalist Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (10.74). Shericka Jackson (10.76) finished third and completed an all-Jamaican podium.
Former Olympic champion Usain Bolt honored the achievement of his compatriots by tweeting "1.2.3" with three Jamaican national flags after the race.
Poland emerged as the dark horse to win the inaugural mixed 4x400m relay in 3:09.87 thanks to a strong final sprint. Silver and bronze medals went to the Dominican Republic and the USA respectively. Both teams have won reinstatement to the final after being disqualified in heats.
Daniel Stahl adds Olympic gold to his world championships title after winning the men's discus throw final with 68.90 meters.
Men's 100m heats were completed on Saturday, with semifinals and the final set on Sunday.
