The New York Mets scratched right-hander Jacob deGrom from his scheduled start Tuesday with tightness in his right side.
The Mets are now scheduled to send right-handed reliever Miguel Castro to the mound to start against the St. Louis Cardinals.
There is no indication of how serious the injury is to the two-time National League Cy Young Award winner with the Mets expected to address the situation later Tuesday.
In five starts this season, deGrom is 2-2 with an NL-leading 0.51 ERA over 35 innings. His 59 strikeouts also led the NL at the start of play Tuesday.
All five of deGrom's starts have gone at least six innings, with three of them scoreless. The 32-year-old has given up just one run in the two other outings.
In eight seasons with the Mets, deGrom is 72-53 with a 2.55 ERA over 188 starts. He won Cy Young Awards in 2018 and 2019 and is a three-time All-Star.
Castro, 26, will be making his third career start in seven big-league seasons. He has a 3.60 ERA in 10 appearances (10 innings) this season and has a career 4.27 ERA over 240 appearances for four teams, beginning with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015.
