HAVANA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Cuba on Monday reported 838 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 45,361, as well as another four deaths in the same period for a death toll of 300, reported the Ministry of Public Health.
According to the daily report, 40,037 patients have recovered from the disease, while 4,968 remain active.
The ministry's national director of hygiene and epidemiology Francisco Duran said the evolution of the pandemic on the island is showing a high level of community transmission, with 815 local cases and 23 imported cases in the newly-reported infections.
Of the imported cases, seven came from Russia, while others came from the United States, Jamaica and Panama.
The capital Havana continues to be the epicenter of the pandemic in the Caribbean country, followed by the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba and the western province of Mayabeque.
